How this Image to Voxel tool works
This tool converts a photo into a voxel model: a 3D grid of colored cubes, in the spirit of Minecraft. It first estimates the object's 3D shape with the same AI pipeline as our 3D tool, then samples it onto a grid at the resolution you choose and assigns colors. You can then edit the result cube by cube in a built-in editor and export it. No account is needed, and files are deleted after 24 hours.
How to use it
- Upload a clear photo of a single subject on a plain background, or press "Try an example". See the photo checklist.
- Pick the look: "Cartoon" gives bright, flat, simplified colors; "Natural" keeps the image's own tones.
- Set the resolution from 8 to 128 voxels on the longest side, or let the tool choose the smallest chunky size that keeps the shape. Choose the color count (2 to 64), solid or hollow structure, and how the model is painted. The resolution and palette guide has recommended combinations.
- Edit and export. Paint, erase, add, fill, use the eyedropper and symmetry, then export .vox (MagicaVoxel), GLB, OBJ or a PNG preview.

Can I export to MagicaVoxel?
Yes, you can export a .vox file that opens in MagicaVoxel, as well as GLB, OBJ or a PNG preview.
How do I turn a picture into voxel art?

What does hollow mean?
A hollow model keeps only the outer shell of cubes, which means far fewer voxels and lighter files. Solid fills the whole interior.
Which color mode should I pick?
AI-painted colors every side faithfully but takes longer. Fast projects the photo onto the front only. Blank leaves the model uncolored so you can paint it yourself.
Where is the tool not available?
The model's license excludes the European Union, the United Kingdom and South Korea, so the tool cannot be used from there. The guides are open to everyone.
